I'll only be scheduling home parties for Maryland, but those out-of-staters can do a catalog party if interested.

Here's what it says on the issue:
"What kinds of waxes are typically used in candles?"
"The most commonly used candle wax is paraffin. Beeswax, soy wax, palm wax, gels, and synthetic waxes are also frequently used in candles. Different blends of these waxes are popular with many manufacturers."
"Are certain candle waxes better than others?"
"No. All types of quality candle waxes have been shown to burn cleanly, safely and in the same manner. U.S. candle manufacturers select waxes or blends of waxes based on their suitability for specific types of candles or formulation profiles, as well as their own candle-making preferences."

You can purchase gifts from my website (www.gottahavecandles.com) - we have some great pre-packaged gift boxes or you can just pick out individual products to send - and have them delivered directly to the recipient for only $5.95 shipping! Purchase each gift separately & ship directly to the person you are giving it to.
THEN, make sure you contact me by phone or e-mail. I will send a custom gift card to let them know a package is on its way to them from Gold Canyon; it will also include your message and a tip sheet for taking care of their candles.
Jamie said she's going to buy a bunch of bottles for Christmas presents. Her idea was to pair them with some dish towels & wash cloths. She'll also be adding an olive oil decantur that she'll be filling with dish soap for that extra special touch.
Thanks for the great gift idea, Jamie!!

So, how to clean it up? Put a white paper towel or brown paper bag on top of the wax and use a warm iron over it to pull the wax up into the paper towel or paper bag. We went through several paper towels to clean it up, but it did a great job & took care of most of the spilled wax. The rest of the wax we'll be cleaning up with our liquid Wax Remover.

Anyway, it reminded me of how glad I am that our jar candles are all made with FDA approved food grade parafin wax. So, while I don't sell candles for them to be eaten, I know that if a kid (mine or someone else's) gets a finger full of wax in their mouth, its okay! I don't have to freak out or call poison control or anything!
Note: our pillars are not made of food grade parafin wax, but the rest of our candles are.

Get involved! Donate to the foundation or submit a grant application for a child who needs help at: http://www.prayerchild.org/ Or contact me to purchase one of our Candles for Kids
At our national Convention this year, they put out a display of candles that had been partially burned. If you'll look closely, you can see 3 jars for each comparrison
- one that hasn't been burned
- one that has been burned & proper candle care has been used
- one that has been burned without proper candle care
The one with proper candle care shows a pretty clean jar while the one without is black from soot!
So what's the proper way to burn a candle to avoid the soot?
- use a wick dipper to extinquish the candle
- trim the wicks before burning
- keep out of any drafts
- burn for no more than 4 hours at a time
- ALWAYS extinguish the candle if you can see smoke being put off by the wicks, fix the problem (remove from draft or trim the wicks) and light again
For those who are finding me at the beginning of this blog, I hope you'll enjoy it. Feel free to make comments or ask questions & you can always find me at my website as well: www.gottahavecandles.com
